Brand Highlight - Gildan Activewear

Introduction

Since Gildan was founded in 1984, the company has emerged as one of the top brands for activewear and casual clothing. The main headquarters is located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and the business employs over 43,000 workers internationally. Gildan remains committed to both high-quality apparel and enforcing environmental and human rights protection protocols.

T-shirts and Other Tops

Gildan produces a wide variety of tops that include t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts and tank-tops. While Gildan does provide some of their shirts to retailers, the majority of their clothing are given through distributors, who can also decide to print a logo or design on the shirts. On the Gildan website, customers can find the shirt and shirt size they want and then see a list of distributors for the location nearest them and the item's availability.

Most t-shirts are classic fit with a rib collar. Women's v-neck t-shirts are semi-fitted with a narrow width. Many sweatshirts and hoodies are made with Heavy Blend technology that includes a cozy interior and spandex cuffs. While Gildan is well-known for its casual t-shirts, it also offers trendier shirts, such as the Gildan 64800 polo shirt.

Other Apparel

Gildan also produces sweatpants with slightly tapered legs and with an open bottom or an elastic cuff. Their American Apparel label includes sweatpants and gym shorts. The company also expanded their line to include fashionable socks by acquiring the GOLDTOE brand in 2011 and the Peds brand in 2016. Gildan recently introduced its Starts White Stays White innovation, where their men's undershirts and underwear remain white and won't discolor over time.

Sustainability and Responsibility

As with some other corporations, Gildan takes environmental issues seriously and has increased its sustainability measures in recent years. With 30 factories worldwide, Gildan enforces eco-friendly methods such as sourcing and buying sustainable cotton; using recyclable polyester in their clothing, using energy-efficient machinery, lowering water pressure intensity and overall water consumption, and minimizing waste materials sent to landfills. Gildan is a member of both The U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol and the Better Cotton Initiative to ensure they use high-quality, sustainable cotton. The company also supports workers' rights, which includes fair wages for all employees, safety training and regulations meant to protect workers' health..
