Following The Trend - How Packaging Can Entice New and Current Customers

Introduction

While it might sound surprising, the product's mailing package can be almost as important as the product itself. First impressions matter, and while plain brown cardboard boxes remain a standard option, companies need more to impress the customers. Learn how packaging can entice new and current customers through use of bold colors, designs and personalization.

Personalize The Package

To really connect with the customers, companies should consider personalizing each package rather than just using one standard version.  Promotional products businesses especially need to customize their packaging to their client's  tastes. Modern digital and 3D printing makes it easy to specify and change designs on boxes and labels.

When a business tries to add new customers, it's essential to do the research. Know the audience you're trying to attract. Find out what their interests are. Have the packaging reflect both what your company represents and that you want their patronage..   .

Design and Color

When customers receive packages, the first thing they notice is the packaging. Therefore, companies should make their packages really stand out. Go for unique shapes instead of the traditional square boxes. For example, a sporting goods business might ship their items in a box shaped like a basketball or baseball. Make sure your company's logo features prominently on the package. Consider putting designs that will catch the people's eye but don't make it look too luxurious unless that is your clientele. Some new clients might assume that your products are too fancy for their budget.

Color also is important when decorating packages. Use bold colors like red and yellow to make your product more memorable and seem more fun and exciting. Most people recognize the golden arches of McDonald's. Regarding healthcare and beauty products, it's usually better to go with pastel, neutral or earthy colors, such as the Salt & Stone packaging seen here.

Quality and Sustainability

While attractiveness will always be important to packaging, high quality remains a top priority. Ensure that your products, especially fragile items, remain secure with extra padding or foam pieces protecting them. Durable materials (ie. thick cardboard and plastic) keep the packaging from getting easily damaged or soaking wet if briefly left out in the rain.

Sustainability also has seen a rise in popularity with customers. People have a greater respect for companies that use eco-friendly packaging. But be honest as customers will lose trust in companies if their products are discovered not to be recyclable or biodegradable.  Make sure the recyclable logo is visible on the package for the customers to see.
