Product Spotlight - Fun Items and Activities To Celebrate Presidents' Day

Introduction

Presidents' Day is a great occasion to acknowledge our leaders and the various achievements they made. Families and schools can also help the children learn more about our country's history. Whether it's buying memorabilia, hosting parties, or visiting landmarks, people can find fun items and activities to celebrate Presidents' Day.

Memorabilia and Decorations

Some history buffs like to gather memorabilia about the US presidents and Presidents' Day gives them the perfect opportunity to buy new items. Collector's coins or stamps of all the presidents are easily available. Replicas of the Resolute desk will look impressive in any home office. Biographies of presidents and books of quotes from famous presidents make for good additions for book collectors. You can also purchase DVDs or Blu-Rays of movies or documentaries about a president.

Another option to celebrate Presidents' Day is to decorate the house with patriotic items. You can plant a small US flag on the front lawn. Hang up red, white and blue garlands and streamers. People can buy framed portraits or prints to put on their walls or photos and busts to place on their desks. Consider dressing up with patriotic-looking earrings, necklace, ties or t-shirts with images of presidents on them. You can also dress up as George Washington, such as this costume from Pure Costume.

For The Family

Whether it's a small family dinner or a party with neighbors and friends, the host might serve a president's favorite meal. They can also create club soda drinks with red, white and blue coloring. You might use the same color scheme for desserts, including cupcakes and jello or bake a cherry pie. People can drink from glasses or mugs with the presidential seal imprinted on them.

The family can make a collage of all the different presidents or create a map of how the US grew over the years under certain presidents. For games, try a presidential trivia contest or use flash cards for children to play a "Guess The President" game. Families can put together a jigsaw puzzle, including Eurographics' Presidents of the United States 300-piece puzzle.

Pleasant Activities

On Presidents' Day weekend, consider a family trip to a president's home, such as Monticello or pay respects at their burial place. Visit Mount Rushmore to see the faces of four famous presidents. Families can go to a local President's Day parade or ceremony. Some events feature a photo booth where you can have your picture taken with a famous president, including Lincoln or Teddy Roosevelt. You can also check out museums with exhibits on presidents and American history.
